Emergency General Surgery
Experiences with trauma systems development, quality improvement and research are highly translatable to the newly emerging field of Emergency General Surgery (EGS). The VGH trauma group has already published widely on the clinical and educational impact of the implementation of organized EGS services. We have also helped to establish a national forum for EGS research and quality improvement, and have been a pivotal force in leading the way on four multicenter research studies. Our goal is to continue exploring synergies between trauma and EGS systems so that lessons learned act as a catalyst in advancing patient care in both areas.
EGS research projects currently underway include:
- A Day in the Life of Acute Care Surgery (ACS)
- National Survey of ACS
- Operations in ACS
- Systematic Review of Trauma System Effectiveness
