Our group places a strong emphasis on ensuring excellence in patient care, and our mandate is to remain at the forefront of the latest advances in trauma care. Investigators in our group have used trauma registry data, along with other data sources, to study clinical issues including severe chest wall trauma, pancreatic trauma, blunt cerebrovascular injury, pelvic compartment syndrome, and venous thromboembolism. We have also successfully contributed to multicenter clinical trials, most recently a randomized controlled trial of rib fracture fixation. Members of the UBC faculty are frequently called upon to write chapters for major textbooks. We estimate the group publishes three to four chapters per year on a variety of topics including trauma systems, rib fracture fixation, and trauma team dynamics.
Members of our group have also been instrumental in the creation of the Research Committee of the Trauma Association Canada, a platform for a national multicenter trauma research centre.
Research projects currently underway in clinical trauma care include studies centered on:
- IVC Filters
- Pancreatic Injury
- Rib Fracture Fixation
- Tertiary Survey
- Traumatic Brain Injury
