Parachute’s Word on the Street – Volume 5: Safe School Zones
We are now in the full swing of spring in most parts of the country, and that means more kids and vulnerable road users are out on our streets and roads. With that in mind, Parachute is proud to present Volume 5 of Word on the Street, a compilation of road safety resources for Parachute’s Vision Zero network focusing on ways to help bring us to Zero serious injuries and deaths on our roads.
The topic of this issue is Safe School Zones.
A case study analyzing safe school zones and exploring some of the evidence-based safety measures currently being implemented across Canada.
An infographic on evidence-based built environment and enforcement features of a Safe School Zone.
A blog post by Liraz Fridman, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Child Health Evaluative Sciences at the Hospital for Sick Children. This blog post speaks to the Canadian Child Safety Report Card findings (published in March 2018) and the link between provinces with strong evidence-based injury prevention policies and reduced child and youth hospitalizations and deaths from road-traffic-related causes.
