BC Injury Prevention Priorities Report
The BC Injury Prevention Committee (BCIPC) is pleased to announce the release of the BC Injury Prevention Priorities report. The report can be found at: http://www.bccdc.ca/our-services/service-areas/population-public-health/injury-prevention
The BC Injury Prevention Priorities report documents the process undertaken by the seven Health Authorities, the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit (BCIRPU) and the Ministry of Health to select injury prevention priorities. The prioritization process used a rigorous, mixed-method approach to achieve a group consensus and reduce unintended bias of the results.
The provincial injury prevention priorities are:
- Seniors Falls
- Road Safety (Young Drivers, Pedestrians, Cyclists, Motor Vehicle Occupants)
- Youth Suicide and Self-Harm
The priorities will assist the BCIPC to:
- Fulfill its mandate to provide guidance and recommendations on injury prevention to the Provincial Prevention and Health Promotion Policy Advisory Committee and the Provincial Public Health Executive Committee via its three-year workplan.
- Realize efficiencies that can be gained in planning by starting with the highest priorities and working across health authorities to address these priorities.
