Vancouver General Hospital’s (VGH) Trauma Center is the accredited adult Level 1 Trauma Center in British Columbia, Canada.
- As the Level 1 trauma centre in BC, VGH plays a leadership role in the provincial trauma system, and a central role in the regional trauma system by being the Designated Adult Provincial Trauma Center for British Columbia (BC), Canada and the Designated Regional Trauma Center for Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).
- VGH is responsible for providing tertiary and major trauma care, including complex and unique (quaternary) trauma services for the province. A s the Level I trauma center, VGH provides the highest level of care, around-the-clock for injured patients from resuscitation through rehabilitation. Emergency physicians, surgeons, surgical specialists, nurses, anesthesiologists and other professionals are always in house and available to provide immediate care. VGH Trauma Center, also, provides leadership in injury prevention programs, undergraduate, postgraduate, fellowship teaching, community outreach, education and trauma system planning.
